Oregon Battle of the Books

OBOB

Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in conjunction with a Library Services and Technology Act grant.  Students in 3rd-12th grade, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.

Students read or listen to books from a list of 16 titles and battle in teams of 4-5 by answering questions about the books. Students at all reading levels are encouraged to participate. Audiobook versions of most titles are available for free through the Sora app.

OBOB’s Mission:

OBOB’s mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.

HOW IT WORKS:

OBOB is run completely by volunteers. There's no better way to encourage your students than to be involved yourself!

Moderators and timekeepers are needed for every battle. Please Volunteer to keep help make this program successful at Sato!

Prepare for Battle!

You will notice that there is nothing about winners and losers in the mission statement. With that in mind, when asked how families can best prepare for OBOB battles here is a list on how to best prepare. Click here to read more.

Battles run through January and February during school. They are an absolute blast to be a part of, and the students are always super grateful.

Volunteers, we need you!
