Sato Elementary

The Sato Elementary School name pays tribute to a Japanese-American family who came to the area in 1926 and farmed on Brugger Road. During World War II, the Sato Family was sent to the Minidoka Internment Center for three years. Two sons, Shin and Roy, enlisted in the military. Shin died in combat in 1944. Roy was wounded twice and received the Purple Heart. The Sato Family is buried in the Bethany Presbyterian Church cemetery on Kaiser Road. Their four children graduated from Beaverton High School.

In a nod to the property's farming heritage, wood from an old barn on the land was salvaged and is used as paneling on the walls in the school's main office. The image of the barn is also featured in a mosaic and painting by local artists. 

Our School

Sato Elementary School opened in the fall of 2017 as the Beaverton School District's 34th elementary school. The District originally planned to build the new school in the North Bethany area during the 2017-2018 school year, but moved construction up a year due to growth and overcrowding. Sato has the same design as Vose, also with a capacity of 750 students. The 87,200 square foot school includes 32 classrooms, 9 additional teaching spaces, a stage, teaching area in the library, and a dividable gym. It was built by Skanska USA.

Located in the North Bethany area of Washington County, Oregon, we are a diverse community near the headquarters of Nike and Intel.  Situated with a view of the Tualitin Hills and Forest Park with local shops, nature trails, bike paths, parks and athletic fields by  PCC Rock Creek campus, our area offers a wonderful community and excellent schools for families.  Sato Elementary feeds into Stoller Middle School and Westview High School.
